Halal butcher
in Brussels

Since 2010, at 403 Rue Léopold I in Jette. Here is exactly where our meat comes from, how it is slaughtered and who checks it.

What halal means here

All the meat sold at Boucherie Léopold I is halal. It comes from Islamic ritual slaughter carried out at the Matanza slaughterhouse in Ronse, Belgium.

That slaughter is performed without stunning and without electronarcosis, neither before nor after. This is not our own wording : it is the exact statement written on our certifying body’s document, which you can read in full below.

Two bodies control the chain

We are not asking you to take our word for it. Two independent bodies are involved along the chain, and their documents can be read here, in full and uncropped.

Halal Verif

Lambs and lamb offal

Certificate number BEW5140623SL, valid until 31 December 2026. The association certifies that the lambs it stamps come from halal ritual slaughter, without stunning, neither before nor after. The certificate also covers caul fat, pluck, green tripe and lamb hearts.

Service Contrôle Halal

On site control, every Monday and every Thursday

An inspector performs the Islamic ritual slaughter within the Matanza premises two days a week. Every ritually slaughtered carcass is stamped in ink with the body’s logo. Attestation valid until 31 December 2026.

Both documents are displayed in full.

One animal, one number

Every ritually slaughtered animal is recorded. A control sheet for a given slaughter day can be obtained on request : it lists the sanitel number of each animal, its date of birth and its category.

Coming from a neighbouring municipality

A certified halal butcher is not on every street corner, so it helps to know which one is closest to you. Jette borders directly on four Brussels municipalities, and touches the Flemish periphery to the north.

Ganshoren

Ganshoren borders Jette to the west. The two municipalities touch along their entire length.

Koekelberg

Koekelberg adjoins Jette to the south. It is the smallest municipality in the Region, everything there is minutes away.

Molenbeek-Saint-Jean

Molenbeek borders Jette to the south west. From the north of the municipality, we are closer than the centre of Brussels.

Laeken

Laeken, part of the City of Brussels, runs along Jette to the east.

Wemmel and Zellik

On the Flemish side, Jette touches Wemmel to the north and Asse, which includes Zellik, to the west.

From any of these municipalities, you can put your order together online and collect it in Jette at a time that suits you.
